Rainy Downtown Kansas City Engagement Session | Historic West Bottoms + Loose Park
My absolute hands-down favorite part of this job is when I get to work with people I’ve known for years.
2021 will mark nine (!!!) years of friendship between myself and Jacob. Jake and I had countless classes together through college, numerous study sessions, multiple moves, and we helped each other get through so many bad breakups (and so many bottles of vodka). He’s truly a ride-or-die kind of human, and I’m lucky to have been friends with him for so long.
Then cut to halfway through college with this cute blonde steps into the picture. Krystal is everything Jake didn’t know he needed. She’s brilliant, gracious, kind-hearted, and above all, she’s an incredible match to Jake. These two have such a rock-solid foundation together that it’s almost impossible to imagine them not together. They really are the whole definition of goals, and I’m beyond stoked for their wedding day in the fall!
Jake actually texted me in October to try to figure out when I could fly to Kansas City to document him proposing, but with fall being my busy season, it just wasn’t working out. Thankfully another photographer stepped in for me to capture the moment! Krystal said later that if it had been me, she would have seen me and known what was happening instantly hahah.
Anyway!! Krystal and I emailed back and forth for weeks to figure out where we wanted to do this session. We picked a weekend for me to fly to Kansas City to do these photos and, of course, Mother Nature decided that was the day it was gonna rain a whole bunch. But we persevered! And honestly, I think their photos are so unique, and no one else has photos like these!
We started out at Jacob L Loose Park with their fun and flirty casual look. The rain was coming down pretty heavily, but they snuggled in closely under their umbrella (thanks Target!), and the rest of the world seemed to fade away.
We jetted over to the 12th street bridge in the Historic West Bottoms for those iconic Kansas City photos, and as a bonus, this double-decker bridge shielded us from the rain. I also recently found out that you can actually hold your wedding reception on the bridge, so I’m actively looking for a couple to do that and hire me to document it! 😍
We finished off this sweet session by sneaking around Union Station for those bright and fun lights, because how could you not?? Congrats to these two sweeties! I’m counting down the days until the wedding!
Want your own rainy day engagement session? Let’s go splash in the puddles together!
Destiny and Todd and I went on an adventure up to Mt. Charleston and boy what an adventure we had! Read about our day and the lovely area of Mt. Charleston.
