Sustainable Love | Colorado Destination Wedding

Alright, folks — after this trip to Colorado to photograph Katie and Ed’s Venetucci Farm wedding, this place might just be one of my favorite venues of all my time as a travel wedding photographer. This place started as a pumpkin farm that was a staple in the community and is now a stunning event venue run by three amazing sisters who focus so much on community and sustainability.

All that talk of sustainability during my visit got me thinking about all the big and little ways you can make your own wedding more sustainable no matter where you are! Read on for some handy tips I picked up for hosting a sustainable wedding:

  • First up, of course, is to choose a sustainable venue. This could be a venue with clear values of low waste and energy conservation, or an outdoor venue which often uses less electricity for lighting and climate control

  • Source local and organic food, florals, linens, and more. Think biodegradable confetti (like flower petals or leaves), thrifted or upcycled decorations, non-plastic dinnerware, and organic cotton linens.

  • Choose or create favors that are recyclable, reusable, or are likely to be used for a long time, like funky thrifted glassware that guests choose themselves, use during your reception, and take home!

  • Minimize waste by using digital invites, avoiding single-use plastics, and consider donating leftover food and useful goods to a local shelter or kitchen. They will always appreciate it!

I freakin’ LOVED my time in Colorado Springs with these two sweethearts. I’ve known Katie since my college days (she’s the coolest) and she’s been one of my biggest cheerleaders since we met. Katie, it was a huge honor to capture your day with Ed and I can’t thank you enough for letting me be a part of it!
