Loose Park Nelson-Atkins Engagement | Kansas City Engagement

In today’s episode of “The World is So Small and Keeps Getting Smaller,” I take you back more than 10 years ago to when I was a junior in high school and knew this kid named Dean. We ran in similar circles and considered each other as buddies.

Fast forward two years, and I’m subletting a room in a townhouse, and this cool lady named Kat is one of my roommates. One night, she tells me her boyfriend is coming over to hang out. I pop downstairs and who do I see? My buddy Dean!!!

Anyway now it’s 2023 and these two cuties are getting MARRIED. And I had the honor of hanging out with them in Kansas City to celebrate their engagement! We went to two of the prettiest places in town – Loose Park and Nelson-Atkins.

Loose Park is a popular and historic urban park located in Kansas City, Missouri. It’s one of the city's most beloved green spaces and offers a wide range of recreational activities, beautiful landscapes, and cultural attractions. Loose Park, named after Ella Loose, who donated the initial tract of land in 1927, has a rich history. The park's land was used as a Civil War battlefield during the Battle of Westport in 1864, making it historically significant. In 1896, it was officially designated as a park. Between the rose garden, the lake, the massive fields, and the numerous walking trails, it’s easy to spend an entire afternoon here!

After we boogied around the park, we shuffled over to Dean’s favorite place - the Nelson-Atkins Museum. The giant shuttlecocks outside the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art are a whimsical and thought-provoking art installation that challenges traditional notions of art and engages viewers in a playful and interactive way. They have become an integral part of the museum's identity and are appreciated both as a work of art and as a symbol of Kansas City's vibrant arts and culture scene. And they’re obviously Dean’s favorite part of the museum – scroll down to see him hugging one!

I’ll always have a soft spot for photographing around the city that raised me, so if you’re ready for some fun and unique KC engagement photos, you know who to call!
