Cave Rock Engagement Session | Lake Tahoe Engagement Photographer
I’m about 99% sure that Kait and Lei are trying to set a record for the world’s longest engagement.
Lei popped the question in 2019, and I had met Kait a few months after they were engaged. It’s such an exciting time, so I was immediately asking her all of the questions – first and foremost, do you have a date set?
She said, “No, we’re thinking 2025.”
My jaw fell off of my face. A six year engagement??? Wowza. But when you’ve found your perfect person and you know you’ll be together forever, why rush it? Plus, these two just bought the cutest home in Reno, so technically they’re already legally bound to each other.
Kait and Lei are the definition of a power couple. Kait has worked in Nevada politics for years, and Lei is an extremely talented artist – she even made her own sweatshirt that you see in the first half of these photos! When they initially thought about doing an engagement session, their biggest concern was not wanting to look like every other couple or not feeling like themselves in their outfits. So I straight up told them to wear what they feel most comfy in. For these two, that meant hand-painted and thrifted clothing, which is such a testament to who they are as people!
We spent the evening hiking up Cave Rock for their photo session, and as someone who hikes regularly, even I was winded from this uphill climb! Cave Rock is one of the coolest features around Lake Tahoe, as the road to the City of Lake Tahoe (from the Nevada side) runs right through it. You literally have to go through a tunnel to get from A to B around here, but it’s so neat knowing the amazing history behind it. This cliffside is known as “The Lady of the Lake” to Washoe Indians because of the resemblance it holds to a woman’s face, as seen from the lake. This hike only takes about 15 minutes from the parking lot to the tippity top, so it’s definitely a fun trek to do for sunset. Be careful as you go up the cliff, though. The trail is pretty easy to see, but you’re still on the side of a mountain.
If you’re ready to trek up through Lake Tahoe for some incredible photos, let a gal know! I’m just waiting for someone to tell me they want to hold their elopement ceremony at the top of the mountain (hint hint).
