How to be the Best Wedding Guest
This tip goes out to the friends of all the couples that follow me! It’s finally wedding season again and you’re probably busy every single week with weddings to attend. So here are three main components to being the best guest at a wedding reception.
If the couple asks you not to take photos on your cellphone during the ceremony, don’t do it! This seems really simple but more often than not, guests just want to take their phones out to capture the moment. I have a whole blog post about this that you can read here.
If the couple has a specific registry of items or experiences, stick to that! Chances are they didn’t put a blender on their list for a reason, so don’t buy them one. If you want to get them something sentimental or personal that isn’t on the registry, you can absolutely do that, but make sure it’s something that they definitely want, or make sure it’s paired with something from the registry.
If you’re on the dance floor, enjoy the music and have fun! And if you see the photographer, don’t shy away from the camera. I’ve seen so many guests that will boogie and have fun during the reception, but as soon as they see me, they stop or turn their backs. That kind of action is what the couple wants to see in their wedding photos! So don’t be shy and enjoy that time.
Bonus tip: Remember that the couple has to talk to all of their guests during the reception. Of course they want to chat with you and be social, but they also have to do that with everyone else there, so they can’t spend 30 minutes just catching up. They obviously still love you and are happy to see you – otherwise you wouldn’t be at that wedding!
