Breathtaking Destination Wedding Photography in Nicaragua
Mary and Abraham have a love story unlike any other. And as an international wedding photographer, I couldn’t wait to tell it.
The two met at Amigos for Christ, a missionary service working in Nicaragua to build infrastructure in communities that need it most. Mary began her work with them as a volunteer before leaving her life in St. Louis to transition to a full-time position in the Human Resources department of the organization.
She told me when she first met Abraham, she never considered him because he was married at the time. But she knew he was the nicest guy ever and that he stuck out to her.
A few years ago on a staff retreat, Abraham was recently divorced and Mary was fresh out of a long-term relationship. The two sat down and talked for about four hours straight. Their friendship blossomed, and three months later, they made it official. Mary said that when she went home to the states for two weeks, they talked every single day. Upon her return, Abraham couldn’t wait to make her his girlfriend.
Now the funny part: In Amigos, everybody knows everything about everyone, which can be pretty easy to do when you have a staff of 100. So the two wanted to keep their relationship a secret for a while.
“We believe that we were the Amigos best kept secret,” she said.
Abraham proposed on top of a cathedral in Léon, Nicaragua – one of Mary’s favorite places. And the rest, as they say, is history.
The day started at Hotel Los Portales with the ladies getting ready. And before we knew it, it was time to get the dress on!!! We left the hotel for the stunningly beautiful Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Pilar. Like for real, my jaw dropped. This place is extra special to Mary and Abraham, because when Abraham was an apprentice, he worked on building the mosaic behind the altar. Oh yeah, by the way, that’s an active volcano behind them. 😱
The reception was held at Amigos for Christ, and holy crap, the planners completely transformed the place! It was time to dance, laugh, cry, and party!
Did I cry at the daddy-daughter dance?
Is the Pope Catholic? 😉
And when half of your guests only speak Spanish and the other half only speak English, you hire a groomsman to translate!
And then we danced!
Thank you, Mary and Abraham, for sharing your big day with me. Here’s to many years to come!
