Is Professional Wedding Photography Even Important?

Should you even bother to hire a photographer for your wedding?

I mean honestly, think about it.

Wedding photography is expensive. It’s an all-day experience. You can’t go a second without remembering that there’s at least one, if not two, cameras on you at any given moment. You probably just want to chill and enjoy your once-in-a-lifetime day, but you can’t, because now the photographer wants to go take pictures of you and your favorite person. It’s gonna be like, 20 whole minutes where you can only snuggle the person you just married, and you’re gonna be so dang giddy about it that you won’t be focusing on anything else.

I could sit here and list out all the things you could buy if you didn’t invest in a wedding photographer. You could probably name at least 30 things in 60 seconds that you could buy instead of having professional photos of your wedding. Go ahead, try. I’ll wait.

Okay so thinking of those 30 things you could buy instead of having professional photos of your wedding, would they be worth it?

Or, a better question: are those things and professional photos mutually exclusive? Meaning like, can you only have one or the other?

(hint: the answer is no)

Let’s switch gears for a moment: how many times have your friends taken photos of you, and when you look at the photo, you think to yourself, “how did I leave the house looking like this?”

For me? Happens all the time.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to worry about that? Your hair would be on point. your clothes looking fresh as hell, and somehow the camera only captures your best angles?

Can a friend with a cell phone do that?

So, let’s weigh out the pros and cons to spending money on your wedding photographer:

Pros:

  • Your once-in-a-lifetime day is captured in photographs that will outlive you, so generations beyond you will be able to relive your day as if they were there with you.

  • You’ll be working directly with a professional – someone who’s entire life revolves around documenting weddings.

  • You’ll be able to relax knowing that your photog will put you in the best poses to show off all the best parts of you.

  • You won’t have to worry about tracking down your friends to get their cell phone photos – your gallery already has all those moments they captured.

  • You have another wedding planning resource because your photographer has done this countless times before. They know what to expect from a wedding day and can help you plan the best timeline alongside your wedding planner.

  • You can usually get sneak peeks of your images within two days of your wedding, which means you don’t have to wait long to see those dope photos of you two!

  • Professional photographers have your best interest at heart. Ultimately, your happiness is what we’re after.

  • Just like professionals in any other industry, photographers go through rigorous training to be the best at their craft. This experience gives you better photos!

  • In 50 years, these photos will be the only thing you have to look back on. Hiring a professional will make sure those images and those memories are never lost.

Cons:

  • Those photos will never, ever, ever disappear.

  • Like everything else in life and everything else with this wedding, it costs money.

  • You have to support a small business.

  • What else would your friends do during the wedding? Relax and enjoy??

  • You’ll be waiting even longer to buy that Lamborghini. Ugh.

So you tell me, is professional wedding photography even important? Is it worth it to have these memories forever?

If nothing else, here’s the main reason why you should hire a professional:
