If you want to pull off a surprise proposal AND include a photographer to capture the special moment, we’re gonna have to get real creative to keep from spoiling everything. For this session, Hunter had a GREAT idea: a sister photoshoot!

Here’s how it went down: Lucy’s sister “happened to know a photographer building their portfolio” (me) and invited her to a desert photoshoot where we got a few cute sister pics, then just happened to walk over to where Hunter was standing and (just for funsies) had him hop in for a few cute pictures with her and then I said “hey let’s try this fun pose idea” and then he’s down on one knee with a ring?! WHAAATT?!! We had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER! What a complete and total surprise to all of us here! Wow!!

Hunter and Lucy were so freaking cute and I’m thrilled they chose me to capture this special moment. Lucy has lived more than half her life in Las Vegas, but these two met in college when Hunter was on the collegiate baseball team and Lucy repped school colors on the soccer team. Lucy is working on finishing her Nursing degree and let me just say nurses freakin’ rock. The day of this shoot was actually their second anniversary, making it all the more special!

A fake-out photoshoot is such a great idea for any surprise proposal because it totally justifies my being there AND gives the unsuspecting proposee a reason to get all dolled up. Psst: find a way to give your partner a heads-up so they feel good about how they look! Because who doesn’t want to look back on the moment they got engaged and be thrilled that they had a fresh manicure and a blowout?

Red Rock Canyon is a perfect and gorgeous location for a proposal, and it’s close enough to Vegas that you can easily hit the streets for an engagement celebration, or even settle down right there in the desert to watch the sunset together.
